PELSB and the Minnesota Department of Education have partnered together to help shape a new teacher mentor training program to best meet the needs of Minnesota teachers and administrators. PELSB has contracted with North American Research & Analysis, Inc. (NARA) to facilitate discussions with school and district administrators on how best to set up a mentor training program within school systems, and to develop a mentorship and coaching training program.

NARA is seeking administrators to participate in one confidential virtual facilitated discussions during the month of May 2019 with 6 to 10 people. Our goal is to include people who provide many viewpoints on the topic of mentoring. Their input and feedback will be used to design the mentor training program to be flexible in several respects: differentiating between the needs of a wide variety of teachers, and adaptable to the existing policies, infrastructures, and available resources of the numerous school districts in Minnesota. To help create an inclusive and diverse group of participants for the facilitated discussions, PELSB and NARA are seeking to include individuals from the following groups:

  • School administrators (site and district level)
  • Administrators of color and those who identify with American Indian heritage
  • Administrators from a variety of locations (metro and greater Minnesota)
  • Administrators in charter schools
  • Administrators in alternative educational settings

The interest form asks questions that will help ensure a wide variety of types of schools and educational environments are included. It also includes questions on race/ethnicity and LGBTQ identity. All individual responses to the voluntary demographic questions will be confidential and the data only available to NARA staff for the purposes of creating the facilitated discussion groups. Any demographic data shared with PELSB will be de-identified and aggregated only for the purposes of reporting the diversity of the applicant pool.
