Minnesota State provides update on concurrent enrollment faculty qualifications; webinar slated for December 15

In a recent letter sent to MSBA and other education organizations, Minnesota State Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Ron Anderson provided an update on Minnesota State’s collective response and continued plans to address concurrent enrollment and the Higher Learning Commission’s minimum faculty qualifications.

Education Minnesota, the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF), the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO), and Minnesota State have joined together to move forward a comprehensive plan to support the vitality of high-quality concurrent enrollment programs and to assist concurrent enrollment instructors in meeting minimum faculty qualification requirements.

Minnesota State presidents Connie Gores (Southwest Minnesota State University) and Laura Urban (Alexandria Technical and Community College), MSCF President Kevin Lindstrom, IFO President Jim Grabowska, and Education Minnesota President Denise Specht presented a draft of a comprehensive plan and its key elements on Wednesday, November 16, at the Minnesota State Board of Trustees meeting.

Minnesota State concurrent enrollment directors will also be sharing this draft comprehensive plan with their local concurrent enrollment advisory boards and secondary partners for review and comment. Feedback and questions from these local discussions, as well as from key stakeholders, will be compiled and submitted to the Minnesota State Academic and Student Affairs office and the feedback will be considered into the final draft of the comprehensive plan. The goal is to have a comprehensive concurrent enrollment plan that can move into implementation starting in spring 2017.

In addition to the local discussions, the Minnesota State system office will host a webinar for other secondary stakeholders to answer questions about the key elements of the draft comprehensive plan and to gather feedback.

This webinar is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, December 15. Go to https://mnscu.webex.com/mnscu/j.php?MTID=mc754c5e343c746f3292c693a8d7037b1 to join this webinar via a WebEx meeting. The meeting number (access code) is 634 475 657 — and the meeting password is: concurrent. Or join by phone toll-free at 1-866-469-3239.
