A glance at Week 10 of the Legislative Session: May 9-13

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Topic Sessions conducted by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) are winding down. Wednesday’s topic was Social-Emotional Learning, School Climate, and Healthy Learning Environments.

MSBA issued three Legislative Action Alerts this week, asking members to reach out to leadership and conferees regarding:

MSBA Executive Director Kirk Schneidawand shared information about the Legislative Action Alerts in a video. Members were asked to email correspondence to MSBA to be hand-delivered to legislators. The inbox filled up, and copies were made and delivered to leadership and conferees. Thanks to everyone for participating. Watch the blog and social media for additional alerts. As session winds down, things are going to heat up and we want to be sure your voice is heard.

The education conference committee got its first look at the education supplemental budget proposals.

MSBA sent a letter to the education committee chairs urging them to make the teacher shortage act a priority and stop any new mandates.

The omnibus tax bill was approved Wednesday.
