Minnesota Senate Media Services released a Session Update video Tuesday, “Addressing the Shortage of Teachers.”

The video includes some highlights from Tuesday’s Senate Education Committee meeting concerning the Teacher Shortage Act.

The committee advanced the Teacher Shortage Act proposal to the Senate Finance Committee after hearing from educators and administrators from around the state attesting to the growing shortage of qualified teachers in Minnesota’s classrooms.

The video includes testimony from MSBA’s Denise Dittrich, Osseo Area Superintendent Kate Maguire and Sen. Kevin Dahle — the sponsor of the Teacher Shortage Act.

The Teacher Shortage Act creates an electronic teacher job board, establishes grants to student teachers in shortage areas, institutes a paraprofessional pathway for teacher licensure, offers loan forgiveness programs, and expands Q Comp for all schools.
