National School Boards Association (NSBA) Executive Director Tom Gentzel will give testimony at a public hearing today (Monday,  January 11). Acting U.S. Education Secretary John King seeks advice and recommendations concerning issues for which regulations may be helpful to clarify statutory ambiguities or to provide appropriate flexibility in Title I of the Every Student Succeeds Act.

NSBA’s recommendations will call for local governance and flexibility, and feature the local governance provision of the new law (Section 8541).

Gentzel is scheduled to testify between 12:15 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. Central time. Monday’s event will be livestreamed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A second regional meeting is scheduled for January 19 in Los Angeles and written recommendations may submitted to the U.S. Department of Education until January 21.
