Updates on Concurrent Enrollment credentialing

MSBA would like to share a pair of notices from the Minnesota State College & Universities (MnSCU) regarding the Higher Learning Commission’s credentialing clarification for Concurrent Enrollment programs.

In a memo, Ron Anderson (MnSCU’s Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs) writes:

“I am sending this note to update you on our collective response and plans moving forward to address concurrent enrollment and the Higher Learning Commission’s recent clarification of the Assumed Practices on faculty qualifications and updated guidelines, as well as recent actions of the HLC Board of Trustees announced last Thursday. I also have attached a message that you can share with your K12 partners as you continue to work with them to maintain your concurrent enrollment program and meet the HLC’s guidelines.”

In a letter to its Concurrent Enrollment partners, MnSCU wrote:

“The recently clarified faculty qualifications requirements announced by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has caused a flurry of questions and concerns about implications for concurrent enrollment programs across Minnesota. While Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) understands that these HLC requirements present challenges for our state, we are confident that concurrent enrollment programming can continue and will grow as we transition to meet the clarified HLC faculty qualification guidelines.”

In addition to these recent letters, MSBA Executive Director, Kirk Schneidawind and MASA Executive Director, Gary Amoroso sent a joint letter to the Minnesota P-20 Partnership requesting a meeting and that the HLC’s credentialing of concurrent enrollment teachers be added to the agenda.  The Minnesota P-20 Education Partnership is meeting today (meeting began at 3 p.m.) to discuss potential solutions to the concurrent enrollment issues.  Check back here on Monday to view a summary of the MN P-20 Partnership meeting.
