Higher Education Bill includes some E-12 education elements

As we mentioned in yesterday’s blog post, some of the dust has settled from the 2015 legislative (regular) session. With much unknown about the level of E-12 education funding, there are some knowns that we will be reporting to you.

One of the knowns is that the Higher Education Bill (SF 5) was signed by Gov. Mark Dayton on May 22.

The Higher Education bill provides $166 million to the Office of Higher Education, the University of Minnesota, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and the Mayo Foundation. The bill includes a $2.3 million appropriation to programs related to E-12 education.

The Higher Education Bill also contains the MSBA Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness Bill (HF 1170, sponsored by Rep. Peggy Bennett).

Click here for the MSBA Summary of the E-12 related provisions that address these topics: Concurrent Enrollment, Teacher Preparation, Teacher Shortage and College Accessibility.
