If not now, when? MSBA taking part in May 4 press conference to advocate for increased education funding

MSBA, Parents United and other education organizations are planning a press conference for Monday, May 4, to highlight the urgent need for the Legislature to fund our schools at a level where there is enough money on the per pupil formula to protect current programming — and still make investments in other key areas.

The press conference will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 181 of the State Office Building (100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) in St. Paul. MSBA President (and Mahtomedi School Board member) Kevin Donovan will speak on behalf of school board members.

Please help MSBA with our ongoing campaign to urge the state Legislature to add 3 percent to the basic education funding formula for both years of the next biennium. Visit http://www.mnmsba.org/StandUpForPublicSchools-Funding to learn how you can help.

Check MSBA’s Capitol Connections and Twitter feed throughout the day Monday for highlights and updates.

Also, look for a commentary from MSBA on the May 4 edition of the Star Tribune.

Public schools need adequate funding NOW. If not now — in the time of a nearly $2 billion surplus — then when?
